Following the successful kick-off meeting in Brussels in December 2012, the first all-hands meeting of the JUNIPER project took place in Stuttgart, Germany during 4-5 March 2013, hosted by the High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS). A total of 21 participants, representing each of 8 partners of the JUNIPER consortium, attended the meeting. Discussion on the end-user application requirements and system tools was in the main focus of the two-day meeting. During a tour of the supercomputing facilities (see picture below) the participants were able to physically touch the petaflop (i.e. capable of processing 10 power of 15 floating-point CPU operations per second) high performance computing architectures, which will be backing the JUNIPER big data processing platform.
